Thrift/Bargain Shopping

With second-hand thrift stores booming, everything old is becoming new again.
Thrift stores and resale shops are retail establishments operated by charitable organizations. Thrift stores usually sell second-hand goods donated by members of the public, non-profit companies and charities. Because the items for sale were obtained for free, they can be sold at very low prices.
The selections at thrift stores can be great, no matter how young or old you are. These stores are great places to fill your bags with hip clothes. Why bother with name brand stores when you can go thrift shopping and purchase actual vintage apparel, rather than new products posing as retro? Big-name companies like Urban Outfitters create ideas for cool new vintage looks based on actual vintage items found in thrift stores. At thrift stores, you can find cool retro outfits and even name brand clothing for an affordable price, making them one of the best, and certainly the cheapest, places to shop.
Thrift stores have an enormous variety and are the perfect places to shop when you are short on funds. My favorite thrift shops are the Village Discount Outlet and The Salvation Army Thrift Stores, both well-known for networks of resale shops. To save money, my mom would shop at these stores when I was younger. Now she is so addicted to finding a bargain she even knows what days are best to go to the local thrift store. When she returns home, my mom excitedly calls me and tells me what name-brand item she found for $5, originally priced at $100 in the average retail store. Thrift stores are truly a Mecca for bargain hunters.
In the past, thrift stores mostly were popular with poor people and college students on a fixed income; now this type of shopping has become popular enough to earn the slang term thrifting.
There is always something new to discover at local thrift stores. Between the thousands of items arriving daily from members of the public and nonprofit companies, no two visits are ever the same.
If you think second-hand shopping is not hip, think again! Anything can turn up at the thrift store, from designer and vintage clothing to unique home decor. All the Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Coaches, Prada and Fendi purses I own were bought second-hand and I am not ashamed to tell you I paid less then $30 dollars for each item. I am a serious bargain hunter, just like my mother.
At the thrift store you can find antiques, athletic equipment, books, clothing for children, furniture, music, musical instruments, tools and toys. The possibilities are endless. With more and more thrift stores opening all over the United States, bargain hunting is getting increasingly easy.
If you are not interested in searching for a bargain, resale shopping might not be right for you. It takes time to find something you really like. Like a treasure hunt, thrift stores are a shopping adventure.
If you are ready to experience the ultimate treasure hunt, try two of my favorite resale shops: the Village Discount Outlet and The Salvation Army Thrift Store. Also reputable are Unique Thrift Store and Goodwill Industries Thrift Store. Why miss out on great deals? Start bargain hunting today.
