Shopping For Summer

Summer fashions are continuations of spring trends. You can still wear the voluminous dresses and graphic print blouses popularized in the spring, but here are a few more trends to keep an eye on when the temperature soars.
Shine On
Fall 2006 saw a lot of heavy metal shine, but summer 2007 will see an abundance of subdued metallic shades. This season, silver and gold will be soft and diaphanous thanks to lightweight, floaty fabrics. Some of the metallic shine actually borders on luster, which is a soft sheen rather than a glaring metallic shine. To get the look just right, wear a lustrous golden dress with wooden platforms (yes those are still popular) to keep you from floating away. If this look is a bit much for you, you can always brighten up a linen suit with a veil of a silver blouse, or you may want to throw on a cardigan – with metallic thread – over a little white dress.
Pants
So long skinny black pants! Of course, skinny black pants had their fun, but when the temperature rises above 85 degrees, do you really want to wear tight-fitting black anything? Of course not. The new pants this season are much more relaxed. They are baggy to the point of being slouchy. For their spring/summer collections, many designers showcased trousers baring resemblances to Aladdin-style pants – full in the hips and thighs with a tapered ankle.
White linen pantsuits with full-cut legs never go out of style. If you do not have one yet, get one. There is no need to stick to white or linen, though. Try a nice pair of jersey or silk knit pants in a neutral tone or stripe. Pair your full-cut pants with a slim top – a sheer chiffon blouse looks great tucked into a pair of linen trousers with a cool leather belt. Wear with flats to dress it down or with linen or espadrille wedges to dress it up.
Polka Dots
Everyone loves to do the polka. You may have seen the graphic dots last spring, but designers loved them so much, they brought them back for the summer season. A black and white polka dot dress looks beautiful beneath a black cardigan and skinny black belt. But it is not just black and white and dotty all over. This summer, play with your coloring; multicolored dots are difficult and fun to pull off. You can find something with green and white dots. Yellow dots look stunning on a khaki background. Polka dots also can be seen on tanks tops, blouses and cardigans in new summer collections.
Dresses
Dresses are your best friend when the temperatures soar and they are a great way to be fashionable. Dresses are convenient and comfortable summer fashion choices. This summer, you can try an ethereal dress in a metallic silver or gold luster. Or you can go for polka dots in just about any color. Graphic black and white prints and floral motifs from the spring will still be hot come summer.
If the bevy of beautiful printed dresses does not get your heart pumping, play around with the shape and silhouette of your summer dress. Voluminous dresses with bell-shaped skirts can be worn right into the summer months, as can the still fresh trapeze dress.
